These chocolate chip cookies are the definition of comfort food. Our mom wasn’t huge on baking (ok, mostly she wasn’t, and still isn’t, huge on sugar consumption), but I loved making these chocolate chip cookies with her. And now I make them with my kiddos and they love them.
I love it. And I love these chocolate chip cookies!
INGREDIENTS
3/4 cups shortening (I use butter flavored Crisco)
3/4 cups sugar (you can also do half brown sugar, half granulated sugar here)
2 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp Mexican vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Cream the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy (a couple minutes). Mix in the eggs and vanilla. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt and mix (until you can’t see the flour in the batter). Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Spoon onto a greased baking pan and bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.
