make your own trail mix buffet

Last weekend we were invited to a party where we were asked to bring a snack to share. I was having a particularly non-commital day and couldn’t decide on a single thing to make. Also, I didn’t feel like baking. And, I didn’t feel like going to the store. So with most options ruled out, my husband suggested trail mix- which is brilliant! Then, I looked up recipes online and found roughly 3,000 ranging from ubber sweet to spicy to super healthy and, once again, I couldn’t commit. So, I decided to let people create their own mix! The assembly was so easy; put all the ingredients in mason jars and include spoons and bags for mixing.

I scoured my pantry and came up with several ingredients including: almonds, pumpkin seeds, cheerios, granola, chocolate chips, coconut, roasted peas, popcorn, candy corn, roasted chickpeas, raisins, candy-coated fennel seeds (have you ever tried these? SO good, if you like licorice) and peanuts. I also included cinnamon sugar and seasoned salt to make a sweet mix sweeter or add a kick to a salty mix.

If you are going to the store you could also pick up m&m’s, more nut varieties (walnuts, pecans, pine nuts), dried fruit, sunflower seeds, chex cereal, butterscotch chips. . . the possibilities are endless!

When you are ready to head to your party just put the lids on the jars, put everything on a tray and go! This was a huge hit and so easy to do! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

I did a trail mix bar for party favors at my daughter’s first birthday two weeks ago. I love this version to go.
