sewvivor finale- garden party frock and preppy pleated purse

April 25, 2012

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Can you believe that the Sewvivor finale is here already? Even better, this week’s theme is Pleats. And I love pleats!

Pleat Week was the perfect chance to tackle a couple of projects that have been lingering on my To Make list- a dress to wear to Adam’s graduation and a green and white purse (and also a pleated headband to finish the look).

The Garden Party Frock (which will be the Dental School Graduation Frock in actuality, but that’s not nearly as catchy) is loosely based on this one at ASOS… but not backless. Isn’t the neckline great?

Some other things I love about this dress- the slightly capped sleeves, the french dart detailing at the bust, the retro silhouette, the punchy pink. One of my favorite parts, of course, is the row of pleats at the hem. It gives the skirt a little weight and some extra prep!

And the Preppy Pleated Purse is quite the versatile little bag. The peekaboo pleats are one of my favorite features, but I think I love the piping almost as much (I’m such a sucker for geometric prints)! The belt-strap handle allows the bag to function as a shoulder bag or to cinch up like a handbag. Also, I just love that green and white combination!

Add in a pleated headband and the Pretty Pleats are complete! Graduation (or garden party, whichever), here I come!

If you have a second, would you head over to the Sewvivor finale and vote? I couldn’t believe the way y’all helped me get into the finale last week- THANK YOU for taking your time to do that!

ps- The dress and purse tutorials are both in the works. I’d love to get them up before Mother’s Day so that you can make one (or both) for your mama if you want- check back next week for those!

I didn’t realize you also made the purse, and I didn’t see the headband in the sneak, I LOVE the whole thing. Did you make all of that in the last 2 days?!? Serisously, you are going to be rockin’ it at graduation;)

Kristen, you are doing wonders for my self esteem. ๐Ÿ™‚ Purses are super fast to put together once you do a couple. Plus I haven’t really slept much since I got home. So excited to go to be at 8 tonight. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks again for all of your sweetnesses!

That is awesome. I bought a Joel Dewberry pattern that I have been wanting to make – similar style. You are inspiring!

Haha- I’ll be honest, there were a couple of nights with not much sleep (that’s why I’m going to bed at 8 tonight). ๐Ÿ™‚ Loved yours too- great minds must think alike since we both did a dress/purse combo. ๐Ÿ™‚
