lovely! pillowcase dresses

I usually limit my sewing projects to something utilitarian (read: curtains or felt bags) or something to be worn by children. I haven’t ever braved the waters of sewing something that I actually might wear myself. However- these pillowcase dresses make me want to scour thrift stores for worthy pillowcases and create beautiful dress after beautiful dress for myself!

*Note: the original tutorial by maya*made is for a little girl’s dress. Check here (scarlette and cinnamon) for a big girl dress modification. 🙂

A few others:

Love the ricrac accent on this modified pillowcase dress by jenle heny

Another darling pillowcase dress tutorial by freshly picked (this one looks very modify-able into a shirt)

And should you want to put darts into your pillowcase dress (so it isn’t so…. mmm… sack-like), wardrobe refashion has a great tutorial here.

Oh, and should you decide to finish the underarm with bias binding instead of fold-and-stitch, here’s a great tutorial by whipstitch.

Happy linen repurposing!
