After a season of seriously neglecting my sewing machine, it has been running non-stop lately! I can’t wait to share some of what I’ve been making, and today’s Miss Matilda dress for the Cottage Mama Pattern Tour is quite the kick off.
I have mentioned before that I adore Lindsay (the Cottage Mama) and her patterns and this one is no exception. Isn’t this dress fabulous?
There are tons of customization options (dress or tunic length, ruffles or no ruffles, buttons or snaps) and you can get the pattern in both PDF format (instant gratification!) or paper (no taping!). Both are available at The Cottage Mama shop.
The best part of this dress is that Piper Jane is absolutely adores it (and she’s pretty particular). In fact, the color blocking on the bottom is my own addition, not part of the pattern itself, because Pi was so adamant about using the purple fabric (which I didn’t have enough of, of course).
As soon as Piper saw it, she declared it to be her “first day of preschool dress,” which, of course, is the highest honor that a soon-to-be-three-year-old can give.
Last time I made a dress for her, she was less than thrilled (because it wasn’t pink). The I-love-it-I-love-it-I-love-it response is so. much. more. fun! And, apparently, even the classic styling and sweet details can’t contain the sass.
Be sure to check out more Cottage Mama Pattern Tour goodness at these lovely blogs-
ps- Lindsay’s book, ‘Sew Classic Clothes for Girls: 20 Dresses, Outfits, and Accessories from The Cottage Mama’ will be available October 7- mark your calendars!

Awwww, thanks sweet friend. Sissy needs one. 🙂
Really cute, Kristin! I love the sweet blues…
Thanks Anneliese! LOVED your Georgia dress too- Tess is getting so big and so gorgeous (all your girls are!). 🙂 Those flutter sleeves kill me!
Ohhhh, Kirstin! I love this dress – so summery, but miss Piper has got the posing down pat! look out! That little hip action kills me!
Haha- she’s such a little primadonna, right? 🙂 The number of ‘hip’ pictures that I deleted is hilarious. 🙂
SO CUTE! I love all of her poses! My poor sewing machine probably thinks I’ve forgotten all about it. Guess what!!! I need to email you… I’m coming to Colorado in 3 weeks!
WHAT!?! Yes- email! I’d love to see you, even if just for coffee. 🙂
And I think that’s how my sewing machine felt too… I don’t think I’ve sewn all summer. And then these last couple weeks it’s been going non stop. 🙂 Funny how that works, right?

Only one word for that dress: Ah-Do-Rable. Gah, the kid is sure a cutie, but the dress is super. I love it and have several littles in my life who would love it too. Hmmmm, may have to get that sewing machine fixed after all !~! Thanks for sharing the great photos of the princess’s nascent modeling career.
Haha, thanks Lynda. The dress is REALLY fabulous! I am making a smaller one for a friend’s little one, in fact. 🙂
