You know when you’re having such a great time at a party that you don’t want to leave (or if you’re hosting, you don’t want your guests to leave)? That’s how I felt Saturday night.

It was the perfect combo of low maintenance menu and decor, fabulous guests, having the chance to actually visit with friends, the food and drinks turning out really well… just fabulous all around.

But let me back up. My sister-in-law and I were throwing this party because…

…Trish started a drink blog! Sips etc. to be exact!

To celebrate this blog launch, a party was an order, of course. But not just any party. A red-and-white, grown ups only soiree with a super laid back vibe, a red velvet heavy treat buffet and lots of yummy Sips! Want to see some (more) pics?

INVITE

Red and White, like our blog!

DRINKS

The pumpkin chai martini was the signature cocktail of the night. We also had a Latte Bar (my dad is a coffee afficianado, so he was manning the espresso machine!), an H2O station (I’m not exaggerating when I say I think I’ll be adding this to all of the parties I throw from now on! So simple, but so fabulous!), hot apple cider, and (my favorite part of the whole party) a Recommended By You Bar. My contributions? Clementine Izzes, Diet Coke and a bottle of Moscato. Read more about the Recommended by YOU Bar here.

FOOD

Lots of yummy red treats– red velvet cupcakes, red velvet whoopie pies, red vines, mini kit kats, skittles and peanut butter M and M packets (thanks goodness Target had trick or treat candy on sale!). My friend Katie made this a.maz.ing brownie macaroon concoction. Heavenly.

And the boys made sure there were plenty of savories to balance the sweets- Buffalo Chicken Dip (the hit of the night- I think my brother is going to share the recipe at the Sips blog soon), fried pickles, and veggies!

DECOR

The all red-and-white decor was uber simple to pull together! In fact, I don’t think I made a single thing for this party.

The bunting was from my Hostess with the Mostess Surprise Party
The stacked paper block garlands were from the Cat in the Hat Baby Shower
The pom pom trim, balloons and streamers were in my stash
I happened to have a couple of red and white cake stands on hand

And we bought a couple rolls of red and white striped wrapping paper at Ikea and used it EVERYWHERE (for the canopy above the treat buffet, as runners on all of the tables, to wrap a couple of boxes to use as treat stands, everywhere!).

How’s that for a big impact (but not so expensive) set up?
FAVORS
Tricia made these fabulous chocolate spoons to add that extra bit of “glorious” to hot cocoa or coffee. I think she’ll be doing a tutorial at the Sips Blog soon. So fun!
Did I mention that I loved this party? And didn’t want it to end? I love parties like that.
Even better, if you have a Christmas party on the docket, I think you could add in a little green (or just leave it red and white!) and pull together a festive holiday fete using these red and white ideas (or just grab a couple rolls of wrapping paper in any palette and go to town1).
Are you putting together a holiday party this year?
Any other parties on the docket?
And does anyone else love stripes like I do?
