the blue dress sew along- shopping list

July 23, 2011

Allrighty friends! T minus two days until The Blue Dress Sew Along begins. Today would be a great day to gather your supplies from your stash (or do a little shopping!).

To sew along, you’ll need:
-1 1/4 yards of your main fabric (maybe 1 1/2 yard to be safe? I used 1 yard, but I’ve realized via several emails that perhaps my lack-of-hips is not helpful to those of who have a little more curve than a straight line- ha!).*
-1 1/4 yards lining fabric (anything lightweight will do… I used lining fabric that I got near the muslin section at JoAnn’s). Same rules for yardage apply as for your main fabric.
-A long thin strip of coordinating patterned fabric if you want to make a patterned belt (or several shorter strips that you can piece together). Mine were about 5″ wide and 50″ long, but I think you have some flex in the length.
-1 6″ piece of elastic (I think I used 1/2″ and 3/4″ and both worked fine)
-Sewing machine and supplies.

*A note on main fabric choice. So far I’ve used chambray, linen and Kona cotton. All three look great, though I think I like the drape of the chambray best. I’d love to try it in seersucker too.

See you back here Monday, ready to make some easy, breeze-y, extra summer-y, Gap knock-off-ish Goodness!

I love that you figured it out yourself. I am not good at designing. this isn't one that I can wear, but I would love to make it for one of the girls.

If I could do strapless I would join in. Alas there is not enough to hold it up. Ho hum.

Any suggestion of type of fabric to use for the main fabric? What did you use in your first ones?

I love this! I wonder if it would look good on my EXTRA curvy body? hehe! 🙂 I would definitely have to add a cardi!
