show and tell: handmade birthday

June 11, 2009

It’s a birthday miracle! With my darling niece’s second birthday on my radar, I made a list of all of the gifts I wanted to attempt to create for her birthday this year. And then I proceeded to make each of the items on my list. Sounds so simple, but that never (never!) happens for me. I have a serious problem with overestimating my available time (and sewing prowess). But not this year- it’s a birthday miracle indeed! Want to see her gifts?

-A repurposed Orla Kiely tea towel apron (my niece LOVES to cook)! I adapted this kid’s apron tutorial by our daily chocolate by adding some embroidery and a pocket. I also used a tea towel instead of a placemat.

-Matching pillowcase dresses for Keadryn and her sister, Sayla (I used the tutorials by freshly picked and jenle heny). Don’t you love the little felted-wool-and-covered-button flower decals? Me too.

-Felt covered barrettes (including ones with felted wool flowers to match the pillowcase dresses). I’ve had the instructions by angry chicken for these little gems on my craft table for months!

-The fluffiest tutu you ever did see (y’all have seen this already).

I’m pretty sure I won’t ever pull this off again (the whole complete-all-the-projects-on-my-list thing)… but I sure had fun crafting for this little girl! Happy birthday baby K, handmade style!
