bohden’s nursery nook

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)In our house in Saipan, our master suite took up a ridiculously disproportionate amount of space. It included an outdoor bathroom (for real), a changing area, two walk in closets, and a little office ‘nook.’ Instead of using a guest bedroom for our nursery, we used that little office space to make a nursery nook for Bohden.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I wish you could tell from the pictures just how quaint and tiny this little ‘nook’ really was (maybe 5′ x 9′?). It was like a walk in closet with a couple of windows and a little niche that somehow perfectly fit a changing table. It was the perfect amount space for a baby room!

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)We haven’t even started on Bohden’s nursery here in Texas (he’s still in our room), but I was scrolling through pictures the other day and saw these ones of his first room and wanted to share them.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I actually used to sit in this room quite often (we initially made it into a nursery for foster care, so it was essentially set up as a nursery the entire time we lived in Saipan). I would go in there to pray, or to read. We even had the kids’ reading nook set up in here for a bit, so they’d join me in there many days. My heart catches just to look at pictures and think of the hours we spent in there, reading and praying and readying ourselves for the next season as a family.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)In fact, almost everything in this room was a DIY project (the perfect storm of a lack of access to even basic decor in Saipan plus so much less on the schedule [aka more time to DIY] equals a serious pile of DIY decor). We made-

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)The DIY striped rocker

The pineapple pillow

The You Are So Very Loved pennant

The watercolored name garland

The Psalm 126:3 banner

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I also made the tassel mobile (I made the tassels like this and then hung them from some driftwood that I found on the beach), the painted driftwood hanging (inspired by these, but with paint instead of yarn), and the crocheted pom pom blanket (just crocheted a baby blanket and added pom poms- kind of like this but crocheted and baby sized).

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)Oh, and one afternoon I sewed a whole pile of crib sheets using Dana’s tutorial (after a call from CPS that they were bringing over a baby and a panicked fruitless crib sheet search on island).

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)Many of those clothes are also mama-made, as are most of the burp rags. Like I said, perfect DIY storm- haha.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)And I can’t wrap this up without including a couple pics of our teensy tiny bear when he was just a few days old. Oh how we love him.

denver house tour

denver house tour

As the grand finale to the least conventional of all home tours (the one that happened mostly after we sold our house- haha!), I thought I’d share all of the house before-and-afters. burke and piper’s shared room

kid's shared room

Hello friends! We spent the last week moving into our rental in Saipan. It is just the opposite of our house in Denver- built this century, big, and very ‘coastal.’ I will try to take pictures this week for a little tour. All of the new had me scrolling through old house pictures this weekend- […]

bathroom makeover for less than $300

bathroom mini makeover

We didn’t quite have the time to do a total overhaul on the upstairs bathroom like we did downstairs. However, with only a couple hundred dollars and some paint, we did have the chance to give this bathroom a mini renovation. The main must-go-now component was, strangely enough, the white vanity. As far as ugly […]

bathroom remodel

bathroom remodel reveal

Writing these house tour posts is a little cathartic for me- even though the house is closed on and not even ours any more, there were just so many hours poured into making that house our home. It is so fun to look through the pictures and to share them with y’all! Y’all, I LOVE […]

a built in nook under the stairs

The perfect use for the space under the stairs- book shelves, a bench, drawers and even a little closet

So, we closed on our house last week. Honestly, that was a sad, sad day for me. Not only did we love that house, we poured so much of ourselves into the remodeling. Since moving overseas wasn’t even a thought until, well, until Adam interviewed for a job overseas mid-March, we picked details we loved […]

the kids’ reading nook- a little tour

cozy kid's reading nook

One kind of crazy thing about a really fast, really unexpected move is that we’re closing on our house in a few weeks and I haven’t even shown you pictures of any of it yet (well, except the wreck of demolition, the in-progress kitchen and the finally finished craft room). I kept putting off sharing […]

sewing spaces- craft room redo complete!

studio space reveal- sewing room/craft room

I’ve been working on putting my craft room/sewing room together since the first of the year (with a February break to go visit Jord and crew)… …and I finished it up just in time to share as part of the 2 little hooligans “Sewing Spaces” series. I’m loving the chance to peek into some of […]

goodbye final bagster, hello light at the end of the tunnel

Friends, it is a happy day at the Gentry casa. A really happy day because…. *drumroll please*… the new house is guest-ready. Well, ‘ready’ might be a bit strong- perhaps ‘guest-safe’ is more accurate? Regardless, the last few months of house projects (and the last week of frenzied project-finishing, trim-and-door-painting, working-our-tails-off and very-little-sleeping) have paid […]
