DIY wooden mountains

easy DIY wooden mountains

easy DIY wooden mountainsI pulled these DIY wooden mountains down from Bohden’s nursery to use as décor for his bear birthday party. And then we used them for a sweet friend’s mountain-y bridal shower. And then we put them up as décor on the mantel for a Woodlands-y baby shower.

easy DIY wooden mountainsAt all three of these parties, people kept picking these mountains up and looking at the way we made them and noting how great they’d be for everyfriendtheyknow that loves Colorado/mountains. And they’re right!

easy DIY wooden mountainsEven better- these mountains were so very easy to make. Adam grabbed some leftover plywood and cut three heights of triangles (11” tall for the big mountains, 8” tall for the medium mountains, and 5” tall for the little mountains). The triangles don’t have to be especially perfect- in fact the set looks better if they aren’t (though, if I were just giving one single mountain to a friend, I’d probably lean toward equilateral-ish triangle sides).

easy DIY wooden mountainsAfter the wooden triangles were cut and the edges sanded, I freehand painted a white ‘snowline’ at the top of each and then filled in the ‘snowcap’ with white paint (you can wrap the white paint around the wooden edges like I did, or just leave the paint on the face of the ‘mountain’).

easy DIY wooden mountainsI made a whole pile of these wooden mountains for Bohden’s room (which has been convenient for party décor), but you could easily just make one for a friend as a nod to their mountain-love. Wouldn’t these make a great Christmas (or birthday) gift for a mountain-loving friend???

DIY wooden herb planter box

Help your garden transition from summer to fall with this DIY herb planter box

I don’t love to cook (luckily I’m married to a guy who loves to cook!), but I do love having fresh herbs on hand- so many dishes are made better with a little fresh dill or a garnish of basil or a few sprigs of rosemary. I also like being able to bring said herbs […]

how to make the most beautiful felt flower garland

the most beautiful felt floral garland (and how to make one!)

One of Piper’s favorite pastimes is flipping through wedding magazines whilst sitting on a beach or lounging by a pool. She is her mama’s daughter, that one. Last year, around the same time as her Unicorn Party, she became infatuated with the gorgeous, lush flower garlands that seem to be all the rage at bohemian weddings […]

psalm 126:3 nursery decor

psalm 126 nursery decor garland

Our time in Saipan was C-R-A-Z-Y- and not just because of the roller coaster that is adoption, nor the two adoptions that fell through before Bohden. There were several typhoons while were there, including the one that plowed through the center of our little island, destroying our house and everything else in its path. And […]

easy DIY watercolor garland

DIY watercolor garland (and tiny nursery 'nook')

Apparently my nesting instincts were in overdrive last summer, because as we approached Bohden’s due date, every single thing I had put on my rather extensive “Get Ready for Baby Boy” to do list was checked off and done a couple weeks before his due date. ALL the deep cleaning- check Baby room prepping- check […]

$3 party decor (an engineer-print-made-fancy)

easy birthday party decor idea- make this poster for $3!

Burke had a birthday last week! And even though seeing “8” on his cake makes my stomach hurt, I have to admit, I really love this age. He is settling into himself and we see bigger pieces of Someday Burke all the time. He is an avid reader and tells me something I didn’t already know […]

DIY flag banner- handmade nursery decor

DIY flag banner (easy to customize, even easier to put together!)

This is one of my favorite projects from Bohden’s little nursery nook. I shared it at Skip To My Lou awhile back as a handmade Christmas gift, and then promptly decided to keep it and hang it in the then-foster-nursery-turned-Bohden-nook. It’s so easy to customize, works great in a nursery, and also makes a great […]

DIY pineapple pillow

DIY pineapple pillow

One thing that I love about living in the tropics? It seems like an excuse for Pineapple Everything. Pineapple shirt? Of course! Pineapple snacks? Necessary. Of course the day would come when a pineapple pillow was requested, and affirmed. This little gem actually currently occupies space in Baby Girl’s nursery (which reminds me that I need […]

how to make paper flowers (the easiest ever, 10 minute version)

Easiest ever crepe paper flowers - each one takes about ten minutes (or, if you make an assembly line, you can make whole pile in an hour!). Party decor (or even room decor!) perfection.

You might’ve noticed that we have a thing for paper flowers around here. In fact, I pretty much have been in love with crepe paper flowers since I first saw them in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine ages ago. And paper flowers are often the perfect addition party decor (or even kids’ room decor!). The thing is, […]
