sweet & salty holiday deliciousness (aka- Christmas crack)We’re skipping Adam’s mom’s annual cookie party this year (darn six thousand miles), but it turns out that there are Cookie Exchanges in Saipan as well (imagine that). Which means that our tropical home has been filled with the smell of Christmas baking these last couple days.

sweet_and_salty_holiday_deliciousness-Christmas_crack_recipeThis sweet and salty, slightly addictive (hence the name), toffee-ish, chocolate-y treat is this year’s Cookie Exchange winner.

sweet & salty holiday deliciousness- Christmas crack recipeI should warn you that five pounds of weight gain is probable if you choose to make his deliciousness and keep it in your house. Just so you know.

INGREDIENTS

40-50 saltine crackers

1 cup (2 sticks) butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

1/2 cups crushed pecans (or other nuts)

several crushed Oreos

DIRECTIONS

christmas crack recipeLine the bottom of a 13×9 pan with a double stack of saltine crackers. On a stovetop, melt the butter and stir in brown sugar. Let simmer until the mixture becomes a caramel color. Pour over the saltines. Bake at 400 degrees for 3-5 minutes. Pour the chocolate chips on top of the mixture, allow to melt, and spread the chocolate layer around. Mix the Oreos and nuts together. Sprinkle onto the melted chocolate before it hardens. When the whole thing sets up, break into pieces. Share. And save some for yourself too (but, remember my warning about five pounds if you keep all of it- haha!).
