An advent countdown, but with a twist- each ornament has a name of God written on it (there are accompanying devotions using the Jesus Storybook Bible for the names they chose)December has snuck up on me this year. I finished up our advent ornament countdown this afternoon in fact.

This is one of our favorite traditions, though, and we’re so excited to have a set of names of Christ advent ornaments here in Saipan. To make a new set, we cut a piece of drift wood into rounds, painted the rounds with liquid gold leafing, added names of God with a sharpie (super fancy right?). They’re a little rustic, but they’ll do.

We chose many different names of Jesus this time than last time. I love that!

I don’t know if I could’ve added something like this to our December List in Denver (the holidays were always just so c-razy for us), but our calendar here is still pretty wide open and I am trying to be intentional with our extra time. With one night under our belt (we’re 17 hours ahead of MST), I am beyond excited for what this month has in store.

advent ornament countdownI’d love to know- if you were starting fresh without any of your stuff, what Christmas items would you try to make or find? What traditions would you be sure to keep going? Do share!

    1. Thanks Heather. We’re only a couple days in doing this with the Jesus Storybook Bible stories, but they are LOVING it. And I am too, honestly. 😉
      Love the nativity idea!!!

  2. I was just thinking last night about how to bring Christ to the forefront this Christmas. This is the answer! I love it! Thank you so much. I don’t suppose I could ask you to email me your list of Bible passages that correspond to the names??? That would be amazing.

  3. We did something similar with the book God’s Names by Sally Michael last year. This year we’re doing something we’ve done many, many times, but it never gets old. My friend put this together years ago and another friend did the drawings. It’s fantastic!
