I delivered it to her (she didn’t live near). We had a wonderful meeting that day. She died one week later. A few months later my friend gave me that quilt, and I treasure it. Okay, I have two, because another very elderly lady crocheted me a blanket when I was unable to have children after 15 years of trying, and told me this was for my future children. 41. I have just started sewing and would LOVE to make use of some of this cool stuff! My prompt was “What is your favorite handmade gift you ever received?”

My mom died when I was 11 years old. Before she died she had started knitting a blanket which she was never able to finish. MY aunt found the unfinished blanket in her things and decided that it would not remain unfinished. Now, 17 years later, I am pregnant with my first child. My aunt presented the finished blanket to me and this sweet baby girl. My mom wasn’t the best at knitting, and as it turns out was working the pattern all wrong. So, my aunt finished the pattern as it read so I can tell the pieces that my Mother’s Hands worked and the pieces that my Aunt finished.

I will always cherish that blanket and hope to learn how to knit, so one day I can teach my daughter and tell her the story of how she came to have that beautiful blanket.

  42. I don’t think I have ever received a homemade Christmas present but my son and I made presents for his grandparents last year and they were so fun and awesome!

  43. My grandmother made me a Raggedy Ann doll when I was 10 years old. She did not read the pattern beforehand.. once she started cutting the fabric she realized it was going to be a LARGE Raggedy Ann. She was 3 feet tall which was not even a full foot shorter than I was!! Grandma also included a wardrobe as well, a total of three dresses, two pinafores, two pairs of bloomers, and two pairs of stockings! At 48, I still have her and all of her outfits!

  44. I received a beautiful quilt from my mother. She spent many hours piecing and quilting it; it is such a treasure!
