sad day

September 26, 2012

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Because of our grandpa’s worsening health (he is still in really rough shape- thank you so much for all of the emails, comments, checking in and prayers!), BOTH of my sisters were in Denver last week.

Since both Kedron and Jordan’s trips were unplanned and super last minute, we didn’t have anything on the calendar except trips to Buena Vista to hang out with Grandpapa Jim.

It’s kind of nice to have surprise sister time- the lack of planning turned into lots of hanging out, sweet cousin time (Burke and Piper are in serious Evie withdrawal), ordering in, laughing and laughing some more, and even some packing (yep, they helped me pack up my kitchen while they were here- isn’t that nice?).

My life is more fun when they’re around, for sure.

The downside is to this spontaneous sibling time is that, while I have a hard time saying good-bye to either of my sisters individually, the compounded effect of saying goodbye to both of them in one weekend is especially rough on my heart. Hence “Sad Day” (or more accurately, “Sad Week”).

I’ve been moping around, calling my mama to commiserate, crying when I find Evie’s clothes in my dryer, and trying (without much luck) to figure out a way for us to all live a little closer.

Are any of you having a Sad Day too?

I LOVE that sibling picture. You all look so much alike. Trish filled me in on the craziness there and I am praying for your family and your grandpa. Glad you had unexpected time with family though! I feel like I know you guys all so well because I follow your blog! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully I will make it to Denver to see Trish and Adam one day and I can meet you in person. Take care!

Bethany- YES come to Denver! And thanks for praying! I love keeping up with you too (FB!). Your jewelry purchase made me laugh (great idea!). And if you need Dallas suggestions (fun places to eat/go/shop), let me know (Adam and Drew are both from there). Sorry you’ve had a rough week too…

Don’t say “goodbye” just say “till next time”, my mother always said “this too shall pass”, and the sadness does. You were all so blessed to be together and have wonderful memories because of it, and pictures to boot. Now you can make a wonderful collage and hang it on a wall of your new home and be able to reflect on the great times and smile, smile, smile. Lucky you!!

Today isn’t a sad day for me, but I’m so sorry you’re having one! Sisters are so special, and I wish you COULD find a way to all live in the same area. Sorry, no advice here. Just take care of yourself, girl.

i know i’ve gone underground for quite a while (far, far too long) but i just wanted you to know that i have been praying for your family. such a hard time in life. take care now and know that you have friends who care for you and are lifting you all up daily… even if they are remiss in letting you know.
    take care now, peggy

I can completely relate to this. so. so. much.
Saying goodbye to sisters makes for some very hard days (our husbands have learned what to expect)
I am always dreaming up ways to get us all to move to the same place ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m thankful you have such close sisters – it’s the best!

Kind of…I posted today about hitting myself in the head with a high chair and getting trapped inside a wonky sports bra…I don’t think that really helps but at least you don’t have a gash on your head and your ladies hanging out….

PS—Still envious of your new place. We looked at 2 houses yesterday. I think someone was murdered in one of them…and the other smelled like cat pee…

Laughing on several counts. Cat pee smell you can totally get rid of. I’ve been trapped in a sports bra before too (though, it was my fault for putting it on- it was definitely too small!). ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck on the house hunt!

Aww, sorry friend! When my sis left a few weeks ago after helping us move I had a rough time. When we lived in Scotland her and my mom visited at the same time and left together, and I literally cried all day. Nothing could stop it, other than when I fell asleep.

Chris and I, whenever we’re missing family, do something that we know we wouldn’t be able to do if we were with them. Like, go to a restaurant or fun thing that is only in our area, enjoy a favorite treat that we wouldn’t if they were around, etc. Chocolate helps too. And naps. Don’t try to be productive when you have a spare minute, just let yourself get some sleep. Being well rested can help you cope with your emotions a bit better too. Good luck!

Erin, I love this comment and these tips. For some reason, it makes it so much better to hear from other people that live an ocean apart, miss their family like crazy, and still make it work. So thanks. Chocolate and naps- great tips. I’m off to rummage through the pantry. ๐Ÿ™‚

that sucks. BUT, even though I have only met Jord, know they are great great great sisters (and bro). Also know I have been saying bad to the bone A LOT lately and making myself laugh outloud!

Oh gosh, I’m glad that’s the kind of sad day you had…as I was reading on I was worried your sisters had had a car accident or something really terrible. Hope you get to see them again soon.
