travel glimpses

I will definitely put together a more comprehensive travel post (especially in answer to everyone’s questions about traveling with toddlers/babies), but thought I’d take a minute to share a little about our trip so far.

We are {mostly} loving the chance to traipse around the world together. The ‘travel’ part itself (the time we’ve spent on airplanes, trains, buses, trams, etc.) has gone far better than I’d anticipated- Burke and Piper Jane have been travel champs! Of course, there have been long days with no naps, or evenings where we skip sunset because one (or both) of the Smooches are losing it. But I came into the trip afraid of how this part would go and it hasn’t been nearly as rough as I’d anticipated.

Even better, we really are having a great time! The trip is so different than our pre-kids travels, but great just the same. I’m finding that the slower pace suits me (having to take a rest every afternoon while Piper Jane naps is something I’d never do on my own), and there is nothing better than watching the Smooches expand their global perspective and find their own love for travel (limited as those may be currently).

In short- we’re learning a lot, loving the places we’ve been (our stops so far- Oman, the UAE and Dubai, Athens, Santorini, and Istanbul), and glad we still have a week of adventures (and beaches!) left.

What have you been up to these last few weeks? Do you have any plans for summer travel?

    1. FOUR months!?!?! Oh my goodness Robin- that’s so fun! What will you be doing? Do you have kiddos (if so, how old are they)? HOW FUN!
And to be honest, having fun around town sounds great right now (it was kind of a long day). ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. Robin,
Where are you going in Alaska? We lived in the interior for almost 5 years. Do you know anyone up there? Have you been before? If you’ve never been or don’t know anyone up there, you can feel free to contact us. We still have very dear friends there who have lived there for the past 23 years who are also a great source of information! Enjoy your time! Over 4 months you will literally be able to experience spring, summer, fall, and maybe even a little bit of winter! Once again… enjoy!

    1. Thanks Erin! It’s so funny, I think I have as many pictures of me with the littles from this one month as I do over the last four years. I guess having great things in the background makes it easy to hop into pictures with them. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’ll definitely put together another post! ๐Ÿ™‚ You guys love to be abroad, right? Have you braved it with your Smooches yet????

  1. What an amazing trip! Your kiddos are so lucky and you are so BRAVE!
I am headed to Italy for a week to cook then off to Montana for a month! I am looking forward to getting out of the Arizona heat!

    1. Maggie, I love your cooking trip to Italy- I bet you have a great time!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
And we’re either brave or crazy- haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Can hardly wait to see your pictures! As a child we travelled a lot because we lived in Europe but not so much any longer even though our kids are teens. Well unless you count moving to and from Alaska… ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks Peggy!!! I bet it’s trickier to coordinate schedules as they get older too, right? I think moving to and from Alaska counts as travel for sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am so glad you’re having a great trip! I am very encouraged that your littles are being such good travelers….we just booked a week long beach vacation the Saturday after Labor Day. Clearly our 11(ish) hour drive isn’t comparable BUT I am a tad worried how my girl will do.

Plus, I think it’s hysterical that you said your travels are different with kids, than prekids. My hubs and I have already had the “this beach vacation won’t exactly be relaxing but we are still going” conversation.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of your trip! Can’t wait to see more pictures.

    1. Thanks Dayna- I’m sure she’ll do great! 11 hours in the car, not for the faint of heart. ๐Ÿ™‚
And you’re so right about adjusting your expectations- travel with kids is definitely worth it, but also not at all the same as pre-kid travel. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait to hear about your trip- I love the beach!
