two of my favorite things- joel dewberry and pleats!

I made a sewing discovery this week that is a double edged sword. I figured out how to turn two half-yard cuts of fabric into a reversible dress for Piper Jane.

One one hand, it is a glorious discovery because-

A- As part of my prize for So You Think You Can Sew, I got all sorts of beautiful fabric. And, specifically, 13 half-yards of Joel Dewberry goodness.

B- The dress is super simple to put together. Like I-made-two-of-these-last-night simple. Since the bottom hem is sewn together and the arm holes and top edge are covered in casings, it comes together alarmingly quickly.

C- This dress + Little Miss Smooch = cuteness overload. Throw some sassy pigtails in there and I die.

You’ve already guessed the downside, haven’t you? It is taking every bit of restraint that I have to keep myself from holing up in my craft room, cutting my entire fabric supply into half yard pieces, and not emerging until I have enough dresses to stock a small shop. Or at least a summer wardrobe. I might resort to hiding my fabric scissors or pincushion or sewing machine cord.

Because, really, how many reversible dresses does one little girl need (probably answer “Not that many!” to encourage my restraint)? Perhaps one or two more? Also, wouldn’t this be darling in linen (I have some aqua left over from the chair redo) or seersucker? Maybe for Easter?

What have you been sewing? Have you made any sewing discoveries lately that you really shouldn’t pass along?

i am semi-obsessed with rag quilts right now. (yes, i so late to that party!) minus the fabric cutting & fabric snipping, they are the easiest thing i have ever sewed.
