the february blah’s

I have several close friends (and one weasel-sister) that winter really agrees with. Maybe you’re in that category too? The I-Love-Winter-and-Winter-Loves-Me category? If that’s you, I have to tell you, I’m more than a little jealous.

See, each February, I look at the calendar, see “First Day of Spring” in the far-off distance and feel a smidge defeated. Ok, actually, I start getting antsy for sunshine on January 2nd (I’m fine with snow through Christmas and New Year’s).

`And even though this is an every-winter occurrence, it’s still a little disheartening to be here. Several things compounding my winter blahs this year? Jord being far far away, our after-graduation plans being up in the air, the fact that we are in the middle of the Winter Storm of the Year in Denver (17″ of snow and still falling), my Smooches simultaneously stumbling into ‘challenging’ seasons (mostly challenging for their mama- their constant state of disobedience, and even their constant tantrum throwing, don’t seem to effect their moods one bit). Blah. Blah. Blah.

Does this happen to you? Do things seem particularly gloomy right now? I’ll commiserate with you! What’s the worst part of February to you (AMEN in advance)?

  1. Two things have helped me this year. I’ve started doing a blue light for half an hour each day. And I declared January Color Month! I planned and worked on plenty of bright colorful projects. It made this winter much more pleasant!

  2. I’m not a fan of winter at all. It seems much to long and cold and I’m in California! But I hate that it is overcast for so much of the time. I miss seeing the sun. Like Laurie mentioned, I too have been using a light and it really does help but spring and summer can’t get here soon enough!

  3. i am so with you on this – i keep trying to remind myself that i’m SO lucky i live in colorado, where we get many days of sunshine and play outdoors on random days all winter long – but for some reason, this winter has been rough on me – and it hasn’t even been that terrible… i’m ready for spring!

    1. no kidding! it could be worse. and yet, driving around in the freezing with snow everywhere is doing quite the number on me. 🙁
maybe we could do a playdate (or head to the zoo)???

      1. we should definitely do a playdate – we are free most days except fridays. planning on the zoo at this point might be risky given our lovely weather lately 🙂 you guys are more than welcome to come to our place or i have no problem at all driving somewhere to meet up – let me know!

  4. Holy cow. THat’s a lot of snow Kirstin! We should switch places. We are getting an early Spring over here and I’ve been missing the snow. Our December was so dry it broke records. 🙁 Sorry you’ve been feeling blah. I have been too, but I think it’s because I’m just tired all the time. 🙂 Hope you have a better week!
