Y’all already know this, but I don’t really sew for myself (just for the littles). Or at least, hadn’t really delved into that realm until two weeks ago.

My change of heart was a result of a trip to the Cherry Creek Mall. We’d wandered through my favorite stores- Anthro, J Crew, and were making our way through the Gap when I saw, and immediately loved, this little strapless number. The $69.95 price tag was a little steep, and I thought to myself, “I’ll have to get that when it goes on sale later this summer.”

But as I looked at it more closely, I realized that it was basically a belted, lined tube of fabric with some darts and elastic along the top of the back. I was further encouraged by the S, M, L sizing (number sizes indicate precision, which scares me). My next thought was, “Why not try to make this for myself?” And, y’all, I am so glad I did!

Even better, our sweet little sis was in town last week, so I asked her to model the dress for me (so much better than dragging Adam around to take my picture). Isn’t the dress great on her? I am totally making her one of her own (sorry if that spoiled the surprise, Kiji!).

Two fringe benefits of our little photo shoot- I now have all sorts of awesome auntie-nephew pictures of my sis and Burke…

…and the pure silliness involved in this little photo shoot yielded lots of laughter and some hil.ar.ious outtakes (the one in the tree is my far-and-away favorite)!

Encouraged by the relative ease of putting this together, I am already working on another grown-up dress based on one of my favorite J Crew dresses that’s no longer for sale (just realized- it’s the one I am wearing on the photoshoot day!). Fun, right?

Also, quick question before I sign off- would y’all want me to put together a tutorial for this? Before you say yes, consider this- I only know how to make my size (I am still figuring out the whole adjusting-for-different-sizes thing)… What do you think???
