kojotutorial: boxed children’s birthday card full of treats

I don’t know if y’all ever frequent your local paper and packaging supply store, or if it’s just me, but I love wandering around the Xpedx here in Denver, just love it!

Last time I was there, I got a few little kraft brown card boxes with clear tops for around a dollar.  This morning, as I was scrounging around for a kid’s birthday card, I stumbled across those boxes… which made me think about the wonderful world of boxed wedding invitations.  And I decided to merge the ideas together into a boxed kid’s birthday card with treats inside.  The assembly was basic enough that you could definitely involve your little ones in the creating of these cards (well, if your little ones are a bit older than my 18 month old- haha!).

To make a boxed kid’s birthday card, you’ll need:
-a card box with a clear top
-pop dots (the adhesive kind)
-paper
-treats

1. Print your message on paper.  I printed, “Ian, Hope your birthday is full of treats,” along with pictures of a few sweets.

2.  Cut your words/graphics apart.

3. Using pop dots, adhere each little word and graphic to the clear box top.

4. Using more pop dots, attach wrapped candies to the inside of the box.

5. Scatter unwrapped candies in amongst the candies that are securely attached.

6. Put the clear top back on the box.  Use as a super-fun (and way-less-expensive-than-store-bought) birthday card!

On a completely and totally unrelated note, I’m so excited to tell you that Kristan won the ‘incentive’ for the I Heart New Year’s Challenge. YAY!  Thanks for getting organized with us, y’all!  This might become an annual event. 🙂

  1. Just saw this post on DIY Day. Wow! This is a great idea. I would have never thought of this, but am definitely stealing this idea for my daughter's birthday coming up in March. Thanks so much for sharing this…now I just need to find a box like this.

  2. That is super sweet!! I always keep the clear top box that cards come in. Now I have a use for em!
