fabric appliques as a baby shower ‘game’

As a twist on the ever-popular ‘decorate onesies at a baby shower’ activity, we recently added onesie appliques to our repertoire. Along with the usual fabric paint and puff paint (which was also provided and well used), we set up an iron and ironing board and provided fabric scraps, fusible webbing, and stencils. With very little direction, the appliqued onesies turned out great!

To put this together for the next baby shower you throw, bring onesies, fusible webbing, a printout of items that could be appliqued (we tailored ours to the guest of honor’s interests and nursery theme), fabric scraps, a fabric pen, scissors (have several pairs on hand) and an iron to the baby shower.

Then let guests trace the templates onto the fusible webbing, cut out the webbing and the fabric in their desired shape and iron the applique onto the onesie. If you want, take the onesies home and zigzag stitch around the appliques.

The fabulous result is a pile of darling, personalized onesies… fun, right?

If you’re visiting from strut your stuff thursday at somewhat simple, welcome!

    1. Hey Kristin- I used dingbats (I think the font is called “Animals”- I am sure I downloaded it for free since I don’t often pay for fonts). I just added the animals I wanted to a Powerpoint document, resized them so they were applique sized and printed them out. The shower guests cut out the ones they wanted to use.
      Hope that helps!

    1. Hey Colleen- you can stitch around the perimeter, but the fusible facing works alone as well. Hope that helps!
