Moana was one of our family’s favorite movies last year (even though it makes our hearts hurt missing Saipan and all of the ocean-y, island-y beauty of our former home!), and I wasn’t surprised at all when Pi asked for a Moana party this year.
I mean, it’s a picture of irony to be here in Texas and put together an island-y, beach-y, luau-y party- perhaps the only party that would’ve been easier to put together in Saipan. But also it was just so fun, and kind of therapeutic, to work on this Moana party.
It was also SUCH an easy theme to coordinate (almost all of the decor was stuff we already had on hand!), and it turned out so cute. Honestly, I think it’s one of my all time favorite parties we’ve thrown!
Even though the theme was Moana, the color scheme and decor leaned more toward ‘island’ or ‘luau’ than toward ‘character.’ There were pineapples everywhere- pineapple plates, pineapple cups, pineapple flower vases, pineapples on the signage, pineapples on the mantel, a huge pineapple float- LOTS of pineapples.
For kicks (and of zero help to the sugar and carb situation), we added a cotton candy bar. More to come on that- it was SO fun, and such a mess, and now I have all sorts of tips for how to do it better next time. 😉
ps- Looking at these pictures makes me realize I never shared Piper’s Unicorn Party from last year! It’s been a kind of crazy season (understatement), but still, watch for those soon!
