bohden’s nursery nook

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)In our house in Saipan, our master suite took up a ridiculously disproportionate amount of space. It included an outdoor bathroom (for real), a changing area, two walk in closets, and a little office ‘nook.’ Instead of using a guest bedroom for our nursery, we used that little office space to make a nursery nook for Bohden.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I wish you could tell from the pictures just how quaint and tiny this little ‘nook’ really was (maybe 5′ x 9′?). It was like a walk in closet with a couple of windows and a little niche that somehow perfectly fit a changing table. It was the perfect amount space for a baby room!

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)We haven’t even started on Bohden’s nursery here in Texas (he’s still in our room), but I was scrolling through pictures the other day and saw these ones of his first room and wanted to share them.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I actually used to sit in this room quite often (we initially made it into a nursery for foster care, so it was essentially set up as a nursery the entire time we lived in Saipan). I would go in there to pray, or to read. We even had the kids’ reading nook set up in here for a bit, so they’d join me in there many days. My heart catches just to look at pictures and think of the hours we spent in there, reading and praying and readying ourselves for the next season as a family.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)In fact, almost everything in this room was a DIY project (the perfect storm of a lack of access to even basic decor in Saipan plus so much less on the schedule [aka more time to DIY] equals a serious pile of DIY decor). We made-

The pineapple pillow

The You Are So Very Loved pennant

The watercolored name garland

The Psalm 126:3 banner

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)I also made the tassel mobile (I made the tassels like this and then hung them from some driftwood that I found on the beach), the painted driftwood hanging (inspired by these, but with paint instead of yarn), and the crocheted pom pom blanket (just crocheted a baby blanket and added pom poms- kind of like this but crocheted and baby sized).

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)Oh, and one afternoon I sewed a whole pile of crib sheets using Dana’s tutorial (after a call from CPS that they were bringing over a baby and a panicked fruitless crib sheet search on island).

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)Many of those clothes are also mama-made, as are most of the burp rags. Like I said, perfect DIY storm- haha.

tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)tiny nursery 'nook' (with tons of DIY details!)And I can’t wrap this up without including a couple pics of our teensy tiny bear when he was just a few days old. Oh how we love him.

dipped herb pots with free teacher appreciation tags

dipped planter pots (and free teacher appreciation printable plant tags!)

Even though teacher appreciation week was last week (and, seriously, teachers deserve all of the appreciation in the whole world- have you read this? I couldn’t say it better myself!), the end of the school year still looms ahead. So I thought I’d share a twoforone today- these darling dipped herb pots PLUS the free “Thank […]

DIY glittered clothespins

One of my favorite projects in my sewing room is the glittered clothespins (strung on a line, currently holding up my favorite ever calendar). They are EASY to make- just paint the clothespins gold, sprinkle with glitter, let dry and top with clear glossy spray paint- and they look fantastic! Also, they just seem to […]

how to make a covered bulletin board

how to make a covered bulletin board

I’ve been finishing up my office these last few weeks and was so excited to add inspiration boards. Even better, since I used fabric and bulletin boards that I had on hand, I made these for free! First I wrapped the boards in fabric, securing each side in place with push pins on the back […]

how to make glitter covered art hangers

how to make glitter covered hangers

So the amount of excitement I feel for these glitter covered hangers is a little ridiculous. They are literally the perfect art hangers for a studio/craft room/sewing room (we use these terms interchangeably around here- haha). I can’t help my ridiculous love, though! Every time I see them, in all of their glitter-y, art-hanging glory, […]

how to make pom pom topped branches

how to make pom pom topped branches

So yesterday I mentioned that I now have a fireplace mantel (YAY!), but am totally out of mantel-decorating practice. For now, our mantel has a row of vases with fluffy pom pom topped branches- it’s really simple, but I love the texture of the pom poms, especially in contrast with the exposed brick behind them. […]

how to build a fireplace mantel

building a DIY fireplace mantel

When I shared the thankful garland, I mentioned that after an extended hiatus from remodeling projects, we are back in the saddle. In fact, Adam is tiling the backsplash while we’re gone this month (lucky me!). And we just picked up tile for a black and white bathroom redo. But before I get ahead of […]

DIY luxe stool cushion (IKEA hack how to)

IKEA hack stool- how to make a fur topped stool with a $6 IKEA stool

If you follow us on instagram, you’ve certainly seen snippets of my office makeover. I was hoping to have the whole thing finished up this week since the kids and I heading to the middle east for a whole month (!?!) to see Jord and her crew. But I am just not sure it’s going […]

t-h-a-n-k-f-u-l garland (with free printable file)

thankful garland

I don’t think I’ve given a State of Our House update lately- mostly because we took a little project hiatus after the long string of remodeling last winter. But we’re back at it lately- building a mantel around our gas fireplace was one of our most recent projects. And I have to tell y’all, I […]
