flowy dolman sleeved tunic tutorial

We’ve mentioned that Jord’s wardrobe requirements in the Middleeast are, well, different from what she wears in the States.

flowy tunic tutorialSo while Jord was Stateside last month, we did a little tunic sewing- tunics that are long, flowy and best of all, super simple to put together.

Cut out your pieces- 42โ€ across at the top (52โ€ for longer sleeves), 28โ€ tall, 24โ€ across the bottom and 14โ€ up on the outer edges.

Leave an inch of margin around the edges if you are planning on French seams.

First, make a curved neckline on the front piece- 6โ€ from the folded half, curve down slightly.

Pin with the wrong sides facing each other and sew along both shoulder seams (stop at the curved neckline) and along both of the sides.

Pinking shear the edges and turn inside out (yep, you read that right, inside out). Sew along all of those same seams with the right sides facing each other, encasing the raw edges in a french seam.

Hem the bottom edge and the sleeves. I used hem tape (tutorial here).

Finish the collar using storebought bias tape (I used this how-to).

Even without specific wardrobe requirements, this tunic is flowy and perfect for fall here (in fact, I made one for Jord and then another for myself!).

And just to keep things real, I am currently wearing running pants, a t-shirt and a hoodie (and have been all day). ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks Jill! I think almost anything lightweight would work- and it’s a fast sew. You’d probably be done in an hour.
Plus, I always feel indebted to you and your picture-taking tips whenever I have to post pics of myself. ๐Ÿ˜‰
      Hope all is well, friend!
