how to make a custom name onesIf you’ve been around the kojo blog for a lo-ong time (and by long time, I pretty much mean since the beginning in 2008), you might remember the custom embroidered onesies that we used to sell in our etsy shop.

Well, in the years since then, the blog part of kojo has become the main part of kojo and our etsy shop is empty of all tangible products (there are party printables in there, but that’s it).

how to make a custom embroidered onesieHowever, helping my brother and sister-in-law welcome Sweet Miss Josie Cope into the world a couple weeks ago made me just sure that another embroidered onesie for my newest niece was necessary. A dire need, really.

And as I sat down to make the teensiest onesie read “Josie,” I figured that you might want to know how to make one of these as well. They’re super easy, though a bit time consuming. But they make such a great gift that they’re worth the effort.

how to make a custom embroidered onesieWith a fabric marker, trace the name/phrase you’re wanting to embroider onto the onesie (I just held the onesie up to the computer, but you could also print out the name and trace that as well).

  1. Ooo, it’s so lovely! Perfect!

I’ve been thinking Hannah needs a Valentine onesie, but I haven’t been sold on any one thing. Embroidery might be it. (PS-Does PJ still wear onesies? H&M have the SOFTEST organic cotton long sleeved onesies, and they’re cheap too.)

I’ll be watching for the embroidery primer. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Erin, Hannah TOTALLY needs a Valentine onesie (to go with her sweet little piggies!). ๐Ÿ™‚ Embroidery primer in the works (and by that, I mean it’s on my to do list for tomorrow or Thursday- haha). ๐Ÿ™‚
And thanks for the H&M tip- love that place!

  2. super adorbs! “learn to embroider” is on my bucket list, so if you ever wanted to do a how to for dummies, I would love it!

p.s. I do remember when your Etsy shop had these! I actually bought a Valentine’s card for the hubsband back when we were dating…a million years ago. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. dayna, you have been around forever if you ordered a card from us. my goodness!
and I am totally putting together a how to- watch for it. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Maggie, nope, you don’t have to worry about it bleeding (I do prewash the onesie in Dreft or Tide free & clear, though). ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. So cute! So…. quick question. Is it preferable to not iron on the interfacing? Just curious if pinning is easier/ has better results? We’ve got babies all around on the horizon and I’d love to stitch up a couple of these!

    1. Mari, I have used both iron on interfacing and pinned on interfacing. For whatever reason, my needle gets stuck more often in the iron on? Perhaps because of the adhesive? The difference isn’t giant, though, so I think either way would probably work- the pinning is just my preference. ๐Ÿ™‚
And I love it that you have all sorts of babies coming- these really make such great gifts! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. haha, laughing out loud. you might already be in bed, but in case you aren’t- yes, all the threads in the floss. I have the tut done, it’ll be up after winter whites, but I know that’s not that soon. ๐Ÿ™‚
