hyatti: the date harvest

Hi friends! How is summer treating you? We are melting here, but it is also nice to have the slower pace that 115 degree weather brings.

The heat also marks the date harvest season. Dates are huge here. They call date trees the tree of life and every time you visit a local it is the first thing they serve.

We headed out to a date plantation this week to see the whole process:

Dates on the tree

Dates on the stem, cut and left to dry.

Once they are dry enough, they are taken off the stem and placed on the roof to dry more.

Finally, they are sorted through and the completely dry ones are taken to sell. This women made sure I had a handful when I left.

Happy Sunday all!
