pink tutorial- baby bubble skirt

June 20, 2012

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Today our guest is our sweet, talented, and overall adorable Delia from delia creates (who also happens to be our Color Your Summer co-host). We love this girl- our friendship goes way back (I tried to find our first emails for y’all [september of 2010 is the earliest I can find, but I’m pretty sure we were in touch before that). We think she’s brilliant with a sewing machine (love this little suspender dress and this sweet shift dress) and a camera (her mamarazzi series is fantastic- if you are wanting some tips on photographing children, read this!) and in the kitchen (don’t these chocolate drizzles look fabulous?). Our favorite things about Delia, though, are her genuineness and her thoroughness- everything she does, she does well. Adore. this. girl.

And love her sweet pink bubble skirt (of course!). Get ready for some serious cuteness-

Hi Kojo fans! Aren’t Kirstin and Jordan two of the coolest girls in blog land? I’m thrilled to be here.

Today, I’m sharing a project I hope you’ll love that’s as pink as bubblegum.

A…

perfect for warm summer days.

It’s easy to make, easy to wear…

kind of like my Easy Baby Skirts. These are made almost the same way but with a soft elastic waistband and a liner underneath.

Materials:

*This is for a 3-6 mo. size skirt.

18″ of soft 1 1/2 inch elastic...I got mine at a local specialty fabric store that doesn’t yet have an online store but they order their stuff from here wholesale, if you want to know what to look for.

1/4 yard of cotton fabric (I used gingham)

22 inch by 5 inch cotton knit fabric (from a T-shirt or just get 1/4 a yard if buying by the bolt)

Prep all your pieces by cutting your fabric to these specifications.

Ruffle the top and bottom of the skirt.

Or liner.

Sew right sides together and turn right side out….

Sew together with a ONE inch seam allowance. Then open it up and sew the seam allowance down on each side.

Pin the other part of the liner to the top of the skirt.

Serge, or sew and then zig-zag around.

Now you’re ready to attach the elastic waistband.

Sew with a modified or regular zig zag stitch all the way around.

Stretch the elastic to match the skirt length as you sew. When you release the elastic it will gather the skirt fabric with it. If you stretch pinned section by pinned section, then your skirt will be evenly gathered.

Then flip right side out. Add a tag if you desire. I use my own homemade mommy tags…see here.

And you have a cute bouncy little bubble skirt.

Slide it on your baby and say awww.

Awwww. 🙂

Thanks for having me over Kojo!

See why we love Delia? And I warned you about the pink cuteness- adorable, right? If you’re in the mood for more pink, we’re over at delia creates this morning sharing a DIY pedicure tutorial– come on by!
