sewvivor week 2

Can you believe that it is already Round 2 of Sewvivor? This week’s challenge was Upcycled/Repurposed. After some careful consideration (so many things to upcycle, so little time!)- I decided to make a summer dress. But not just any dress- an easy breezey drop waist beach dress.
One of my favorite parts of warm weather is the dresses that rotate into my weekly wardrobe! I know dresses seem fussy to some people (like my sister, for example), but they are the ultimate in easy-wear to me. You pull on one article of clothing, add sandals and accessories, and you are out the door. Fabulous!

And this season, I am loving the laid back comfy drop waist dresses that are popping up on dress racks!

The twist? I used few men’s XL undershirts as my material.

My favorite aspect of the dress is its wearability. I took it with me on our Spring Break trip to Mexico and the day that I wore it included a trip to the local flea market, miles and miles of walking (between boardwalks, beaches, and around the old town in Puerto Vallarta), and a dinner out.

Not only was I entirely comfortable the entire time, the dress easily transitions from an outfit for uber casual walks on the boardwalk to less casual hot-ate-wear and everything in between. I guess that’s what happens when a bunch of men’s tshirts take on new form as a dress, right?

My other favorite parts? The color- dark blue with a hint of green (I dyed the tshirts before I made the dress), the drop waist (so trendy and so easy to wear), and the pleats (they add the smallest kick of prep). Oh, and I love it that this dress was super easy to put together (the tutorial is in the works)- I am certain I’ll be making myself another one of these dresses in the next couple of weeks!

If you have a minute, would you head over to this week’s Sewvivor poll and vote?

    1. Delia, you are such a doll. THANKS for the compliments. And, to be honest, it’s one of my favorite things I’ve made too. Mostly because it’s just so functional. Love those projects! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh, yay! I can’t wait for the tute! I have some purple dye that I would love to use this for. We have almost a dozen weddings this summer and this would be great to dress up or down according to the type of shindig.
