smart like dave phd party

One of our best friends finished up his PhD in New Testament this summer (he started his work on it in England seven years ago). We are so excited for him and proud of him, so of course a party was an order! Add Halloween weekend and costumes tied to literature and history to the mix and you have a Smart Like Dave PhD Celebration.

Want to see few of the party details?

book circles garland– to make this, I used various sized circle punches to cut circles out of old book pages (I ripped them out of the textbooks that I used for Burke’s shelves, in fact) and then sewed them into a long garland

mini-book garland– the tutorial for these fabric bound mini-book ornaments (strung into a garland for this party) is coming at creation corner on friday

Congrats Dr. Rev. Morlan banner– made from old book pages that I ran through our printer

bookmark favors- hung in a row on the pegboard favor display

photo booth- made much more fun since everyone was in costume!

upcycled book page pomanders made from old textbook pages

guest book- we used a photo book filled with pictures from the last seven years

image via ruffled

props for the photo booth– I found this DIY photo booth tutorial and template at Ruffled… people LOVED adding mustaches, glasses and lips to their already-fabulous ensembles

Also, don’t forget to enter the fabulous felted wool cozy giveaway… it ends tomorrow at midnight!

You ladies NEVER cease to amaze me. Seriously. This party was fabulous. In love. Love how you used real books to make so much of your decorations. Oh, I am just loving this party. I want to throw a birthday party for one of my sisters with all of these ideas…only because of her LOVE for books and literature. This is just fabulous.
