beach bound… (and a beach hat mini tutorial)

March 16, 2010

Our house is a hustle and bustle of grocery shopping, Target runs, packing, and crafting this week as we get ready for our big beach-y spring break trip (starting this Friday- WOOHOO!).  I love the packing part of traveling… the flurry of vacation-related activity makes me super excited for the trip itself (unpacking, on the other hand, is a totally different story- perhaps because it signifies that our trip is over instead of still coming).

Anyhow, during one of our aforementioned Target runs, I was planning on picking up a beach hat or two for Burke (SPF 60 is not enough to protect the Fair Skinned One’s head from the sun).  Seven bucks is a little steep for a beach hat, considering that the dollar store’s shelves are abundantly stocked with similar head covers, minus the all important chin strap.  So I picked up a couple chin-strapless hats (see above), came home and turned them into beach hats.  It was so simple, it can’t even be considered a tutorial…

Just snip (I cut the ties off of a couple of halter tops from my to-be-refashioned collection)…

Pin…

Stitch…

And you’re DONE!

***I’m not finished with these yet, but I thought I’d give y’all a little glimpse of some of the other before-beach-crafting around here (please ignore the blurry-ness of the picture and the randomness of the outfit- haha!)… See those pants?  Beachy, right? I can’t wait to show you the finished ensemble… stay tuned!
