kojotutorial: little leggies from sweater sleeves

After I finished making the plaid schoolgirl skirts for Keadryn and Sayla, I had a revelation.  The girls needed (not wanted, NEEDED) little leggies to go with these plaid school girls skirts.  And I had just the thing to make that happen for them- sweater sleeves, of course.

You can probably guess what to do from the picture, but in case you want/need more detailed directions, here we go.

You’ll need:
-a pair of sweater sleeves
-elastic (I used 20″ total to make the 3T size and 16″ to make the 24m size)
-a sewing machine

1. Cut the sweater sleeves so that they’re the length of the leggies plus one inch.  Jordi kindly measured my nieces’ little legs for me, first the length from where she’d want leggies to sit to their ankles and then the circumfrence around their thigh.  Keadryn’s leggie length was 13″ (I was going for 3Tish) and Sayla’s (24m-ish) length was 11″.

2. Sew a casing/tunnel around the top of each soon-to-be-leggie.  Leave a little opening to thread your elastic through.

3. Thread your elastic through the casing.  I used about 9″ of elastic for each of Keadryn’s leggies and 7″ for each of Sayla’s.  Stitch the elastic together when it is stretched all the way through the casing and let it disappear into the ‘tunnel.’

4. Stitch your opening closed.  Finish up your other leggie, turn right side in and you’re DONE!  Pair these little gems with a schoolgirl skirt, a plaid flower brooch, and a plaid barrette and you have quite the ensembles for your little lovelies!

Oh, and, I promise, we’re about to move away from little girl numbers and back to more of a variety.  Can y’all tell that I just went to visit Jordi (and, of course, needed to take lovey bundles full of gifts for the girls) by the ridiculous amount of girly tutorials you see on here?  Hahaha!
