kojo tutorial: ribbon covered cake box

I love specialized bars at parties- dessert bars, limeade or lemonade bars, cookie bars, popcorn bars (sidenote- isn’t a popcorn bar a great idea? A friend is having one at her daughter’s birthday party next week… I’ll try to get some pictures for you!). Anyhow, since I think that treat bars are the perfect addition to every entertaining occasion, I’m always looking for ways to add varied height dimensions to a display table.

Here’s a supersimple (and inexpensive) way to make some of your delightful goodies sit taller on your buffet table than others.

You’ll need:
-an empty shoe box (if you’re worried that the box’s graphics might show through, cover it in butcher paper before you begin)
-10 yards of ribbon (I used two coordinating types of ribbon, so 5 yards each)
-a hot glue gun
1. Glue one type of ribbon in one of the inner corners of the shoe box. Glue the other type of ribbon in the corner perpendicular to the corner you just used.2. Alternating types of ribbon, cover two entire lengths of the box (one vertical and one horizontal) with ribbon. It’s ok if there is ribbon overlap at the end of the row.3. Using an over-under-over-under weaving technique, cover the top of the box with ribbon. Glue the already-weaved ribbon on the opposite side of the box. Continue weaving and gluing until the entire shell of the box is covered in weaved ribbon.
4. Create an Amy Atlas worthy dessert bar at your next party, using your ribbonbox to mix up the display heights’!

  1. Cute way to cover a box! We can always use new ideas on how to dress up a table for a party, and I esp. like things that add height.

  2. I've seen cake boxes covered in fabric but this is SO CUTE! This is an idea I can use in so many situations. Thanks!
