Earlier this month, I saw these fabulous 4th of July drink parasols by Martha Stewart (picture at left). The red, white and blue palette didn’t quite work for our metallic hued “All that Glitters” party this weekend, so I decided to modify the directions a bit and create my own drink umbrella swizzle sticks.

To make some of your own, you’ll need:-paper in your party’s palette
-a 3″ circle punch (I think other size circle punches would work too)
-bamboo scewers
-a hot glue gun
-scissors
-wire cutters or some other heavy duty cutting utensil (to trim the bamboo scewers)1. Punch out your circles. I was making 30 drink umbrellas, so I punched 30 circles.
2. Make a slit in each circle. Stop when you get to the center of the circle.3. On the wrongside of your paper, place glue on one quarter of the circle directly next to the slit. Overlap your circle’s edges until you have a parasol shape. 4. Place a dot of hot glue in the center of your upside down parasol top. Place a bamboo scewer that’s been trimmed to your desired height in the glue. Hold until the scewer is secure.5. Use these little lovelies to garnish your drinks, add a festive touch to your party, and help your guests identify their glasses!
